About COERR

COERR was established by the Catholic Bishops Conference of Thailand (CBCT) on 20th December 1978 as a private humanitarian service organization to provide emergency relief to those affected by natural disasters, and to provide assistance to refugees and displaced persons as well as Thai communities affected by the influx of refugees into Thailand. COERR operates through the concept of loving and serving our vulnerable fellowmen on a non-discriminatory basis -- regardless of their race, religion, gender or political ideology – and by helping them to help themselves.

During its first 15 years, COERR rendered assistance to hundreds of thousands of Indochinese refugees (Cambodian, Laotian and Vietnamese) who had fled the political conflict in their countries and had taken refugee in Thailand.

Since 1984, COERR has been rendering humanitarian developmental services to about 140,000 Burmese refugees living in 9 camps in Thailand. COERR’s work is supported by partnerships with UNHCR, Caritas Germany, Caritas Espanola, Caritas Korea, Trocaire, The Papal Foundation, Enfants du Mekong, Kindermissionswerk, Missio, Misereor, European Union, Ministry of Interior and Catholic Relief Service. COERR works in coordination and is an active member of the Committee for Coordination of Services to Displaced People in Thailand (CCSDPT).
